AI recommendation index · ranked by measured share, not opinion
Hotels — Greater Toronto
These are the 239 hotels in the Greater Toronto Area eligible for the Trust Index, built from Ontario's liquor-licence register and the hotel brands' own property lists. The index measures which ones AI assistants recommend to people booking a stay.

The ranking
Share is the position-weighted share of answers that recommend the business, 0 to 100, across every scored question, assistant and run in the reading. Spread is the variation between runs. Engines shows which of the scored assistants named the business at least once.
The eligible list: 239 hotels in the Greater Toronto Area (6 November 2026), grouped by municipality, each with its brand. 31 are independent; the rest carry one of 78 brands. Scores fill in after the first reading.
Editorial pilot. Ontario has no public hotel register. Eligibility comes from the AGCO liquor sales licence open data (licences with a hotel endorsement: mini bar or room service) plus the brands' own published GTA property lists (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Choice, Wyndham, Groupe Germain). The base list is hotels with 50 or more rooms; smaller hotels are added when an assistant names them. The list is published before any scoring so it can be challenged through corrections.
Room counts. Few properties publish a room count (4 of 239 here). A hotel with no published count is included provisionally when it holds an AGCO hotel endorsement or carries a national brand; a published count below 50 moves it to the named add-in list.
Named add-ins. Hotels below 50 rooms are credited when an answer names them, labelled with the assistant, date and question. Two are already on file: The Templar Hotel, Nobu Hotel Toronto (published counts below 50).
Exclusions. Members-only clubs whose rooms the public cannot book, student and retirement residences, restaurants and event venues that hold a room-service or mini-bar endorsement, properties not verified as hotels, and properties outside Toronto, Peel, York, Durham and Halton.

Members-only rule (recorded before it was applied)
A property is excluded as a members-only club when its guest rooms are not bookable by the general public: an overnight room can be reserved only by a member of the club (or a member's named guest or a reciprocal-club member), and a person who is not a member cannot book a room directly with the property or through a public booking channel.
The test is about room booking, not restaurants, bars, gyms or event space. A hotel whose bar or spa is members-only but whose rooms anyone can book is in.
Evidence order: the property's own website or booking page; then the AGCO premises name (for example "… CLUB"); then public booking channels.
If the property's own site says rooms are for members (or members' guests) only, or it offers no public room booking and calls itself a private members' club, it is excluded as members-only.
If the property has no overnight rooms at all, the members-only rule does not apply; it is not a hotel (a separate reason).
Membership price, exclusivity, reputation, prospect or client status, and how often assistants name the club play no part in the test.
Any members-only club that an answer names is reported as "named, not eligible (members-only)" and is never scored.
Recorded 6 November 2026 at 04:53 UTC, before the rule was applied to any row. One club's public page had been read a few minutes earlier while room counts were being checked; the rule text and tests were not changed.
Disclosure. Hotels in this market may have commercial discussions with a company related to the publisher; none is a client at capture. See independence.
After the first reading, eligible businesses that no assistant named are listed here. Not named means not named; it is not a judgment about the business.
The 17 questions we asked
Each scored question was asked three times to each scored assistant during the capture window, with no account history and no location signal beyond the question text. The branded question is reported, not counted toward the ranking.
Prompt set frozen 6 November 2026. The 16 scored questions are asked unchanged in every run; the 17th asks about each hotel named, by name, and is reported, not scored.

How this was measured
Constructed (editorial pilot), 6 November 2026: AGCO liquor sales licence open data (active licences with a mini bar or room service endorsement in Toronto, Peel, York, Durham and Halton) plus the brands' published GTA property lists (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Choice, Wyndham, Groupe Germain). Base list 50+ rooms; smaller hotels added when named. Members-only clubs, residences, restaurants and venues excluded.
